I thoroughly enjoy this book because it is very comforting to young children. Starting preschool is a huge step and sometimes they lose things in their classrooms and are uncertain where to find them. Reminding them about this story and Corduroy’s missing button on his overalls calms them down. |
I know it is hard to see the children graduate because you will miss them. I know with the way that education spending has taken a bad hit lately, we often wonder if things will ever get better and if our children are getting the best education possible. I know where I live in Idaho that the class sizes have increased and the teachers have to spend more out of pocket for their classrooms. I love the book you have picked out. It is a great one to read.

I think this is a good way to use this book. In my district the Pre-K programs are held in Elementary Schools that go up to forth grade. I believe that when the three and four year olds come to this big building it is a whole new world with all big people especially when many of them come from smaller environments. This is a good transistion, from one setting to another to reassure them that everything will be okay.
ReplyDeleteCorduroy is a great book. I remember taking our 3 year old kids to the Hyatt Regency Hotel for Read for the Record and I believe Corduroy was the book chosen for that year. All of our kids got to hear the book read to them and they all recieved a book of their own.
