- What insights have you gained about research from taking this course? After taking this course I have a greater understanding of what research entails. There are so many components of research or things to consider when conducting research such as: what to look for when you are using electronic resources i.e. web to ensure that the researcher is valid, who your audience will be, how will your research be conducted, will the research require consent from a parent or guardian or child, how would you ensure that your research is valid. These are just a few of things that I have learned from this course.
- In what ways have your ideas about the nature of doing research changed? Well, initially I knew that research required a lot of planning, but I really had no idea of how much planning.
- What lessons about planning, designing, and conducting research in early childhood did you learn? I learn that each of these components is very important to the success of the research.
- What were some of the challenges you encountered—and in what ways did you meet them? Some of the challenges for me came from narrowing down the topic so that the research conducted would be specific. The way that I corrected this challenge was actually changing the question several times and then seeking the help of the professor.
- What are some of the ways your perceptions of an early childhood professional have been modified as a result of this course? This course only validated for me how important the early childhood profession is to the education of young children.

ReplyDeleteI agree, I did not realize how much planning was involved in research! Not only are there many components involved in a research study, but each of these needs to be planned for in addition to other things such as validity, ethics, and equity. After learning all this I have gained new respect for researchers and the research process!

I also spent some time reevaluating my topic goal and research question to mold well with the goals of the simulation study. Although I didn't list it as such, I feel like finding a direction was also a challenge of mine. I tend to over think concepts and just make it more difficult for myself to narrow down my interests, but that's definitely an area I have been able to refine in this course.
